Introduced in April 2016 Judo Kids aims to change the focus of children’s development in Judo from being tested on techniques and competition results to progress on:
- Co ordination
- Balance
- Physical movement
- Listening
- Understanding
that will benefit them later in their judo career allowing them to progress much more easily.
Using Fun animal movements , games and exercises the children will find they are enjoying themselves so much they forget they are learning.
There is also a Theory element that consists of some Japanese words and their meanings and questions on their Judo code such as safety rules etc. These are all explained in the booklets you receive on Joining the Judo Kids Scheme.

At 8 years old the membership can be upgraded directly with the BJA to the Mon Syllabus. The grades already achieved are converted 3 Sho to 1 Mon at the next grading by the examiner.
If your child is very near their 8th Birthday (less than 3 months) it is advisable to contact the BJA by phone and have them go directly to the Mon Syllabus. (This cannot be done online).
